Detecting defects before the robot picks.
At a manufacturer of seal inserts for packaging applications, the inserts are lined up as "stacks" on several parallel roller conveyors and packed by robots: until now, defects often only became visible after packaging or at the customer's site. A wide-angle camera captures several adjacent roller conveyors from above at the same time and assesses geometry, defects and contamination in real time; the AI assessment is connected directly to the robot controller via PLC. Stacks with a NOK assessment are either not picked (with optional manual release by an operator) or specifically sorted into a NOK container before packaging.

Preventing customer complaints instead of finding defects at the customer's site
Stacks with a NOK assessment are not picked or are specifically sorted out before packaging: defects that used to become visible only after packaging or at the customer's site are now detected beforehand. Every decision is documented per stack and channel, which reduces film, time and personnel costs and prevents customer complaints.
