Keeping 20 to 25 variants cleanly apart: automatically.
At a manufacturer of reusable plastic transport containers, up to 20 to 25 product variants converge, mixed together, on a central conveyor belt after injection moulding: some distinguishing features are only visible from one side. Several cameras capture each container, while synthetic training images generated from CAD data, together with a labelling workshop, ensure reliable recognition of the individual variants. The system decides OK, NOK or "not recognisable" and sends an automated signal to the material flow control, which routes each container to the appropriate finishing or assembly station: matched against the product database for end-to-end traceability. The goal is reliable recognition in 24/7 operation.
Variant recognised, signal sent

Several cameras are mounted above the conveyor belt in an inspection cell and capture each container automatically; a signal to the material flow control indicates the recognised variant.
Reliable sorting in 24/7 operation
Even when distinguishing features are only visible from one side, the system automatically assigns each container to the correct finishing or assembly station: matched against the product database for end-to-end traceability. Ambiguous cases are reported as "not recognisable" instead of being sorted incorrectly.
How many variants converge, mixed together, in your production?
We look at your variants, distinguishing features and material flow: and assess whether automated variant sorting makes sense.
